The ICAD board is in the early stages of developing a peer reviewed journal for auditory display, design, and sonification. Given the dramatic differences in disciplines, we want to get as much input as possible frim the wider community about publication issues, Do you have questions, comments, or concerns about the formation of a new journal? What would you like to see in and auditory display journal? Let's discuss!
Great news!
John - as one of the graduate student community members this is great news! I love the ICAD venue and funds permitting try to go each year, which means that over time I've come to see it as my main publication base, regardless of where I am headed in the academic worlds...so a journal would not only raise the profile of the field but is also another great publishing opportunity!
I have to say in terms of logistic suggestions I've seen people around me start up e-journals (mostly, as a popular "new journal" form) in new and developing fields, and they aim for more like 2 issues yearly...so bi-annual production. There is a long time in between putting out a CFP, then assembling peer-reviewers, then going through a proper review process and allowing for revisions...so I think to begin with any more than bi-annually might be a bit tough to manage!
I would also like to say I am more than happy to help if such help is needed around the organizing, reviewing, etc of this journal venture!
Warm regards,

ICAD Journal
Hello John,
I think it is a great idea to have a Journal like this. There is no discussion yet about how this should be: electronic journal only, CD-ROM version and/or paper? I have very good experience with on-line journals, e.g. the EJTA in Russia, where all the papers can be downloaded (free in this case, but sometimes for money) in PDF. There is no strict limitation in page numbers and all papers are searchable. However, in Hungary, on-line journals are not so well recieved, unless, there is a CD-ROM version of it and/or paper as well. My suggestion would be: an on-line journal with downloadable PDFs, and at the end of every year a CD-ROM could contain all the issues of the year "forever". This is much cheaper than having a paper-based journal.
How many issues would be there? Monthly? Can we fill a journal monthly? I am sceptic about this, maybe bi-monthly? This would be 6 issues a year, that can be recorded on a CD-ROM.
