ICAD 2009 Call for Participation

ICAD 2009 – Timeless Sound

Music of the Shores?

To all list members,

Dear friends,

I have been studying the ripple patterns on seashores, both static, recorded in the inter-tidal sands and dynamic, observed as drainage water flows across the sands as the tide goes out.

These remarkable static and dynamic patterns suggest 'sounds' but engraved in sand within a non-audible  visual domain. So is it possible to 'sonify' the visual data and create sounds directly related to the patterns?

Auditory Display Chapter in "HCI Beyond the GUI: Design for Haptic, Speech, Olfactory, and Other Nontraditional Interfaces"

Phil Kortum's book, HCI Beyond the GUI: Design for Haptic, Speech, Olfactory, and Other Nontraditional Interfaces (Interactive Technologies) has a chapter on Auditory Displays that is very good particularly for the new practitioner. You'll recognize several ICAD regulars in the author list too.

Here's a link to the book in Amazon.

Metros London, Paris, Mexico

I am looking for institutional support in Paris (space and equipment) to develop three workshop activities with participants , from middle of Septembre to middle of October, within my post-doctoral research "Linking Urban soundscapes via commuters' memories".

In exchange I am willing to deliver a conference about this research, and establish other paths of collaboration.
